THE BREAKDOWN
Jayden Pietersen | Owner of Breakdown Kickboxing
Breakdown kickboxing was born out of experiences that I have had as both a student and teacher of Muay Thai, kickboxing and boxing. When you learn certain techniques, it can be difficult to pull all the movements and nuances together into one effective action. I found that being able to breakdown each move into a series of smaller movements made the learning and more importantly the understanding of it much more digestible… (more easily obtained)
While my exposure to combat sports happened at an early age with my family, I began training Muay Thai and kickboxing in 2008. A funny story about how I got started; I was 15 years old in high school when I got into my first scuffle and realised I had no idea how to fight. Exhausted after fighting I had asked a friend who I knew trained at a MMA gym if I could accompany him to the gym. I walked through the doors of a little gym in a basement of a plaza and there were men, women and children punching, kicking and grappling. I was in awe and immediately knew I was in the right place. The owner and trainer of Universal MMA was a man named Master Fred. He was an older man with a gruff voice and a chiseled body…
My memories of my first day was pretty vivid and I would never regret it or take it back. Coming into a martial arts gym as a boy at the age I was, kids usually have egos bigger then the room they stand in.
To make sure I understood what I was getting myself into, my new coach and friend Master Fred threw me into sparring. It was a hell of a start to a new chapter in my life. After being beaten up, bruised and sore, I had never been happier. I rushed home that night to beg my mother to sign me up and I will never forget ….
Fast forward to 11 years later, martial arts is not just a passion of mine anymore, but also a career. Here at Breakdown Kickboxing our goal is to make our cliental not just hit their goals but to ascend to places their mind and body have never been before. I want my clientele to not just have technique but to understand why, when and how to use it in every situation. Whether it be shadow boxing, hitting a bag, pads or sparring with others. Making the everyday person into a confident, respectful and disciplined individual in or outside of the gym.
Breakdown Kickboxing is not about abusing our skills or inflicting pain. It’s about being able to systematically and strategically break down a opponent or attacker with the use of Boxing, Muay Thai and kickboxing techniques. I look forward to helping you on your fitness journey and discover what our bodies are really made of. Remember at the end of the day happiness isn’t about money or power, it is loving what you do and making others smile around you.
